The green and vibrant Hyvinkää is a town of 45 000 people in northern Uusimaa, a 45-minute train ride from Helsinki. Hyvinkää has developed into the centre of the economic area. The excellent logistic location and good traffic connections have brought to the town a vast variety of businesses, of which the largest are Konecranes Corporation , Kone Corporation, VR (national railways), Saint-Gobain Isover and Ecophon and Reka.

The historic Old Wool Mill is no longer operational, but weaving has been replaced by small businesses, culture and information technology. Technology centre Techvilla operates both at the wool mill and in the industry park of the Kone Corporation. Techvilla has specialised in lifts.

The city is surrounded by nature and therefore it provides people who enjoy sports excellent opportunities to exercise for example in the Sveitsi nature park, swimming pool or ski centre. There are also many interesting sports associations in Hyvinkää.

Hyvinkää is also a town rich in artistic tradition; Helene Schjerfbeck, Tyko Sallinen, Yrjö Saarinen and Terho Sakki all lived and painted here.

Hyvinkää has changed much because of growth, but on the other hand, traditions have been respected. This is most evident in the old wooden house areas where new buildings have been built in the same spirit as the old houses next to them. There are fairly tall buildings in the city centre, but Hyvinkää is first and foremost a town of one-family houses. People come here looking for a life which is balanced, spiritually rich and close to nature.
